Sun Met Tips

The Sun Met, an annual event taking place at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town is known as Africa’s Richest Race Day. Sun International became the proud jockey to ride this ‘horse’ when they hosted the first Sun Met as the new headline sponsor in 2017. Sun International felt that it was time that someone recognised the heritage of horse racing in South Africa. The Sun group’s aim was to return spectacular glamour to Race Day. This is done by promoting the Sun Met as a combination of prime entertainment rounded off by world-class horse-racing with the largest purse on the African continent as the cherry on top of the royal cake.
Putting their reputation at stake, Sun International presented and unforgettable yearly event in the form of The Sun Met. Of course, as Cape Town’s most spectacular horse-racing event, the Sun Met features a dazzling array of top South African musicians DJs during this event. On this day Kenilworth Racecourse is modified into a breath-taking runway lined with local and international celebrities. Race-day visitors can also participate in a Best Dressed competition, gawk at and enjoy themed fashion shows, and attend the most superb afterparty listed on Cape Town’s social calendar.
On 1 February 2020, One World and jockey MJ Byleveld won the 158th running of Africa’s Richest Race, outsmarting Rainbow Bridge, the winner of the previous year, who was ridden by internationally acclaimed jockey Ryan Moore.
Award-winning media personality Bonang Matheba, Miss South Africa 2019 Sasha-Lee Olivier and actress Nandi Mbatha, were among the celebrities that attended the event, while Holly Rae, Courtnae Paul, Black Coffee, Themba and Da Capo – under the banner Africa Is Not A Jungle – entertained guests at the after party.
